During these crazy times, I don't think I have ever felt more grateful to live in a smaller center and to be involved within the agriculture community. As a primarily large animal clinic, the vast majority of our clientele is already in social distancing mode (also known as calving season), and there have been no indications that this virus can be found or transmitted by livestock.

Driving to work today, I pondered at the irony that I spent countless hours planning biosecurity risks between animals and animal-human (zoonotic) ...... and here I am now worrying about the dang human-to-human spread of disease..... oh how the times have changed.

Blue Sky already has a very detailed cleaning protocol; however, we are now taking increased precautions to help keep not only our patients, but our clients safe.

1.It goes without saying, Please adhere to all recommendations made by Alberta Health Services. If you feel under the weather, but require a prescription, an animal seen or supplies, give us a call first, and we will arrange a way to help you out.

2. We will not be allowing more than 10 people (total - with 4 staff members in clinic, that means 6 clients maximum) in the building at any time. There is more than ample space in each treatment area for us to all stand 6' away from each other. Please limit to 2 people or less for an appointment, or in our reception area.

3. There are 2 sinks available in the front rooms that you are welcome (and encouraged) to use to wash your hands at any point.

4. If you need your animal examined, but do not feel comfortable being present, please let us know, and we will happily help you out. With our phones and endoscopes, we can take pictures or videos of what we find and send them to you remotely.

For those of you who know me..... you know how much I enjoy when kids or teenagers come and we can use our appointment time to educate as we go. Even though I have no doubt your poor kids are going stir crazy, I would ask that we respect our distancing protocols, and only allow 1 or 2 people per appointment, and only the people necessary to make decisions for that animal.

Thank you to everyone for all your efforts, and an extra thank you to everyone in agriculture - we have always known that you are the backbone of our country, and a small part of me is happy that more people are seeing that in the face of this challenge.

Blue Sky is here to help keep your animals and YOU as safe and healthy as possible. If you have any concerns, just let us know. We are here to help.

Blue Sky Veterinary Services offers a range of services to the pet and livestock owners in Medicine Hat and the surrounding areas. These include diagnostic services, as well as medical and surgical procedures.

Blue Sky Veterinary Service Ltd. was founded by Dr. Megan Williams in 2012. Our mission is to provide outstanding service to our large animal clients. We emphasize strong communication, and providing you with the knowledge and ability to care for your animal. Our commitment is not only for the animals we care for, but the clients and community as a whole.

Dr. Williams was raised on a ranch in southern Alberta. Her upbringing allowed her to foster her love of animals and the community. She graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2010.

Since then she has spent time in mixed animal practice, as well as a breeding season at the 6666 Ranch in Guthrie Texas where she assisted in breeding over 2100 mares, and foaled out over 350 mares.

Following her tenure at the 666 , she spent a year in Brandon, Florida completing a rotating surgical and field service internship, and worked with specialists in the field of equine dentistry.

Despite enjoying the warm southern weather, she always wanted to come home to Alberta. In the summer of 2012 she followed her dream of owning her own practice, and started Blue Sky Veterinary Services.

Dr. Williams has continued to further her education with specific focus on equine dentistry and reproduction. She has extensive training from internationally board certified Veterinary Dentists and is a member of the International College of Equine Veterinary Odontologists (ICEVO).

Thank you for getting my horse in on such short notice and for your excellent and professional care!

Great vet kind and patient with my horses. She has done their teeth and regular vet checks went far and beyond looking after an eye injury that could have left him blind. Happy to say he is doing just fine. Also treated a lump on a show horse and removed it with no scaring.

Love it there love all the Vets and staff but more importantly my fur babies really love it there!!!
